I-Form has developed a smart digital tool to visualise, extract and analyse melt-pool temperature data for laser-based powder bed fusion builds (LB-PBF) on a standard desktop or laptop computer. The tool supports the analysis of large, ‘extreme’ datasets that are typically generated on a layer-by-layer basis from the printer. The tool has a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) where the researcher or operator can visualise their print data and perform basic analyses in-situ, allowing them to make quick decisions about their next experiments without the need to use more expensive and less sustainable high-performance computing resources.
A runthrough of the GUI and tool in operation at the video link below:
The tool (currently called “Meltpool Tomography in Python”or “MTPy”) continues to be developed and we are interested in hearing from potential evaluators and collaborators. Please contact the lead researcher on this project Dr Cian Hughes (cian.hughes@dcu.ie) or info@i-form.ie to trial the tool and get more details.
