Prof Clare joined the University of Nottingham as a Lecturer in January 2010 after completing both PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Liverpool. Since then he has undertaken fellowships at the University of Tokyo, Rolls-Royce and the High Value Catapults (AMRC/MTC). In 2017 he was appointed as Professor of Manufacturing Engineering and also holds a Lik Dak Sum Chair at the University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Materials Processing Technology and Precision Engineering.
His research focuses on the use of non-traditional manufacturing methods to arrive at net shape while inducing favourable material properties and generating new surfaces on engineering components. He is particularly interested in developing new manufacturing methods and materials for use in the high value manufacturing sectors including aerospace and biomedical engineering.
