I-Form Joins Dublin's Repair Café to Celebrate International Repair Day with 3D Printing Support

I-Form, the Research Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, proudly participated in Dublin’s Repair Café event, held in celebration of International Repair Day. The day was a fantastic success, bringing the local community together for hands-on repairs, learning, and collaborative efforts to reduce waste. With support from Tog Hackerspace and Dublin Maker, the event aimed to rescue items from landfills and promote sustainable practices within the circular economy.
I-Form team members Michael Golden and Sadhbh Carey contributed 3D printing expertise to the event, fabricating hard-to-replace parts and demonstrating how advanced manufacturing technologies like 3D printing can extend the life of everyday objects. Their efforts enabled community fixers to tackle challenging repairs and reinforced the practical benefits of sustainable manufacturing techniques. Thanks to the team’s dedication, items that might have been discarded found new life, highlighting how 3D printing can play a role in sustainability.
During the Repair Café, 72 items were assessed (according to Tog Hackerspace):
- 45 were fixed on-site
- 13 require additional parts but are repairable
- 14 were found to be beyond repair
The event was a testament to the power of community and collaboration in fostering sustainability. I-Form extends heartfelt appreciation to everyone who joined, especially the community fixers whose dedication made the event a memorable and impactful experience. As we continue to support the circular economy, I-Form remains committed to using technology to create sustainable solutions.
