Happy Engineers Week from I-Form

I-Form wishes you an engaging and enjoyable Engineers Week. We have lots of activity going on this week aimed at encouraging young people and wider society to consider the relevance and importance of engineering and manufacturing.

Check out our new manufacturing careers video. I-Form and IMR present this informal chat with five young researchers and engineers who are shaping the future of manufacturing in Ireland. The Q&A is hosted by Phil Smyth from RTE’s Home School Hub.

We are also running a design competition for Junior Cycle students, in partnership with Junior Cycle for Teachers – Technologies (JCt4). The competition challenges students to design a system or device to enhance the day-to-day life of a senior citizen. The I-Form research team will judge the entries. Students have a chance to win a 3D printer for their school. (I-Form, JCt4, and 3DWIT are currently delivering 3D printing training to 100+ teachers across the country, under an SFI Discover engagement programme.)

I-Form researchers are also getting involved in other online activity for the week. Best of luck to Beth Macaulay and Helena Mylise Sorensen, both from DCU, who are taking part in the online schools engagement programme I’m an Engineer, Get Me out of Here.

Meanwhile, the Sligo Engineering Fair kicked the week off with a slew of virtual workshops and shows this weekend. Well done to key event organiser Marion McAfee, an I-Form Funded Investigator at IT Sligo. Prof Niall English, a Funded Investigator at UCD, also took part in the fair, delivering a fascinating workshop for families on ‘The Wonders of Gas Hydrates’.
