Dr Olivia Leslie is a Commercialisation Research Engineer with I-Form, based at University College Dublin (UCD), working on an industry-based project with Lia Eyecare. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at University College Dublin, where her research focused on the design of a novel small-scale optical tactile sensor for robotic manipulation. Her primary research interests focus on translating novel technologies from research prototypes into manufacturable systems and on developing manufacturing systems.
Technical Summary
This project focuses on the manufacturing process required to translate a wearable device prototype into a reliable, scalable, and manufacturable product. The manufacturing and verification stages present significant technical and regulatory challenges, including managing production variability, ensuring consistent essential performance under physiological operating conditions, and generating objective verification evidence to support regulatory approval. The development of tailored in-line verification testing is critical to ensure manufactured devices consistently meet defined requirements and to enable systematic assessment of performance and safety. Overall, this research seeks to establish a manufacturing framework that integrates in-line verification and validation processes within a scalable production environment.
