Prof Niall English leads an active research group in materials- and energy-related research, with a keen interest in both water and gas in any of their homo- or hetero-geneous forms in Nature and in synthetic materials. Located at UCD Chemical Engineering, he runs the Materials, Energy and Water Simulations (MEWS) group. He is a Fellow of the IChemE, and involved in the Process Control Special-Interest Group. He has been awarded over €4M research funding since joining UCD in 2007.
Prof English currently leads a research group of 1 MSc, 6 PhD students and 5 PostDoc researchers. The main research focus of the group is the development of new materials and processes for more efficient and effective renewable energy and environmental remediation, with a particular focus on gas and water. The application of digital technologies to materials processing through highly complex modelling and data analysis is a major route used by the group to enable predictive, efficient processes in these focus areas.
