Prof Rocco Lupoi
Funded Investigator

Prof Lupoi graduated as a mechanical engineer in 2004 from Polytechnic University of Turin and obtained his PhD degree from the University of Bath in 2008. His PhD project was covered by an article with a dedicated front cover in EUREKA magazine (May 2005) with the title Devices that absorb energy on demand. He was appointed as a postdoctoral researcher in Cambridge University in 2008 to carry out ground-breaking work in a new field, now known as additive manufacturing. In 2013 he became a Marie Curie Fellow (CIG scheme), and in 2014 was awarded a key grant of €500,000 from the European Space Agency (Technology Research Programme - TRP).

Research Interests (Lay Summary)

Prof Lupoi is an emerging leader in additive manufacturing with established collaborations in Europe (Ireland, UK, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, France) and the rest of the world (China, US, Canada). In total he has been awarded €2.4 million as a lead PI (and an additional €2 million as Co-PI). He is an Associate Member of the international academy of production engineering (CIRP). In recognition of his research career, he was elected a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin in 2019.
